Almost everyone from the worst hit Kedarnath town has been rescued.
On Friday, the focus of the rescue efforts will be on Gaurikund and Rambara where more than 5,000 people are believed to be trapped in this narrow valley.
The NDRF team reached Rambada on Friday morning.
According to the Home Ministry statement, a total of 50,422 pilgrims were still stranded at various places. Also, over 13,000 people are said to be missing.
The defence ministry said that the Army had deployed 8,100 soldiers, including medical teams, engineer task forces and signal detachment. Ten specialised mountaineering teams of the Army were also pressed into service in the Kedarnath-Soumang area.
The official death toll still stood at 150, but Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said the casualties could run into several hundreds which will be known only when areas become accessible and water recedes.
The Uttarakhand State Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre has in its report to the Union Home Ministry said that casualties in the affected areas may run into thousands with about 90 'dharamashalas' (rest houses for pilgrims) swept away in the flash floods.
He said Army will launch operations on Friday to bring these people down.
The bad weather is, however, making it tough for the helicopters to land and evacuate the pilgrims.
Defence Minister A K Antony is closely monitoring the situation and has directed the armed forces to extend maximum possible support in the operations.
About 10,000 people are also being provided food and medical assistance. Over 50 relief camps have been set up for those evacuated till now.
