The Minister of State for Personnel Mr. V
Narayanasamy told on Friday that "At present, there is no thinking in the government
for increasing the retirement age to 62 years from
the existing 60".
The retirement age for a majority of central government employees is 60 years. However, the age for retirement in case of teachers and scientists is 62 years. The then PM Shri A.B.Vajpeyi increased the retirement age of all Central Govt. Employees( including teachers and scientists) to 60 years from the existing 58. The Congress Govt. increased the retirement age of teachers and scientists form 60 to 62 years. Few State Governments have also increased the retirement age of their employees to 62 years. Therefore few leaders have recently consulted Advocates to file a case in court of laws for increase of retirement age of all Govt. Employees to 62 years. .
