Normal works were partially affected in Central Govt. offices on Wednesday by a general two-day all-India strike called by by the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers (CCGEW) from February 12 in support of their long-pending demands specially merger of dearness allowance with Pay.
Employees in nearly 40 central government departments, including postal, rail mail service, income tax, customs and central excise, audit and accounts, Survey of India and census, stayed away from work.
As per practice, the DA is merged with basic pay when it breaches the 50 per cent mark. DA merger helps employees as their other allowances are paid as a proportion of basic pay while government is likely to announce next month hike in dearness allowance to 100 per cent.
Others main demands are withdrawal of the new contributory pension scheme, re-introduction of the statutory defined benefit pension scheme, abolition of contract employment, grant of interim relief and settling the issue of terms of reference for the Seventh Central Pay Commission.
Reports from the states said works in central government offices were partially affected, although postal services were hit hard by the strike.
AIACEGEO provided moral support to such strike. The AIACEGEO decided to conduct Satyagrah along with its own charter of demand during lunch hours on 12.02.14 & 13.02.14.
