Sub: Corona epidemic.
Sir,
As you know, it is to submit with due regards that the
deadly COVID-19 virus is spreading fast throughout the world including our
country and has already taken thousands of lives. Corona outbreak is at stage 3
in our country which is the most critical stage. Next at least two weeks are
very crucial and numbers of confirmed cases including deaths are on regular
increase at faster speed.
2. It is
further to submit that our department doesn’t fall under the category of
essential services. Our officers have to commute for offices using the public
transport and public places like bus stops and railway stations. No need to
submit that this commutation for office exposes them for hundred percent
chances to be infected by the deadly virus. It is also worth to mention that
the government has already banned the public gatherings, meetings, travels etc.
and has ordered to close the schools, colleges, crèches, malls, banquet halls,
gyms, recreation centres etc. Even the ongoing examinations in the colleges
have been postponed for indefinite period.
3. On many
places, offices have also been ordered to be closed. Tours and trainings have
been suspended. The corporate offices have preferred to adopt the concept of
work from home. All these measures are being taken to get preventive protection
from dreaded COVID-19 virus. On the contrary, our offices are being opened even
on the holidays which will certainly expose our officers to be infected by the
dreaded COVID-19 virus in all probabilities.
4. In view
of the above, it is requested not only not to open the offices on holidays but
official holidays at least for two weeks may also kindly be declared for our
officers to contain the spread of deadly COVID-19 virus. All official tours and
trainings may also kindly be suspended. A modal based on the concept of work
from home may also kindly be prepared for our officers which will save a huge
expenditure being incurred by the government on required infrastructure, office
buildings etc. If our authorities have powers to open the offices on holidays,
they also very well have equal powers to declare the holidays in these emergent
hours.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
(HARPAL SINGH),
Secretary General.
