"The health and welfare of its officers and staff has always been one of the priority areas for the CBIC. This is even more so today when the country is faced by unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid 19 pandemic. Our officers manning the customs barriers bravely continue to perform their duties with utmost dedication 24 ×7 thereby enabling the supplies of essential goods which at this stage is extremely vital for the country as well as ensuring that there are no obstacles in the way of exports and imports which are needed to sustain our economy.
In this background, the Board was unanimous in recommending a unique scheme from the Department's Welfare Fund for enabling field formations to provide for a safe work environment in terms of PPE, maintenance of hygiene, etc. as well as to render financial assistance to employees at the lower levels should they so require. Community outreach in and around the workplace would also be in the ambit of this scheme.
I would like to thank DGHRD for formulating this scheme in line with the objectives of the Board and getting it approved in such a short period of time. The Circular in this regard is given below."
