Sh. A. Kantimatinathan, IRS ., Assistant Collector of Customs and Central Exise ( Retd), was born in Mayiladuthurai on 15/08/1921. Completed post graduation in 1943 in Annamalai University. Joined Customs and Central Excise department in the same year. Served 36 years and retired in 1979 as Asstt. Collector of Customs and Central Excise.
In 1972, he detected a Customs case during routine road patrol resulting in the seizure and confiscation of 1200 gold biscuits of 24 carat each weighing 10 tolas. Total weight of the same was around 140 kg and valued @ Rs 76 crores approximately expressed in today's market value. He was awarded the prestigious President Award for the risk taken during the anti- smuggling operations during his service at various places and also for the above seizure of 1200 gold biscuits.
He was a brave and bold officer. He faced so many problems during his service, especially when he was stepping up anti- smuggling operations against smugglers, when served at places like Chidambaram, Madurai, Rameswaram, Tuticorin and finally Ramanathapuram and used to come out successfully from them finally.
He used to be very kind to the junior officers working under him at various places. He had maintained friendly and cordial relationship with other state government police and revenue department officials, wherever he was posted. This helped him and his subordinate officers in a great way in executing their official duties easily and speedily without any hardship.
He extended every possible help to his subordinate officers when they approached him with any problem in their personal or official life.
This was possible because he maintained close contacts with his ex-classmates and friends during his college days, who occupied high positions in the State Government as ministers and head of departments, till his retirement and also afterwards.
He treated all his subordinate officers equally and respectfully. Hence, people would prefer to work under him happily wherever he went.
He was a powerful orator in English and Tamil since his college days .
He is a man of high moral values. He has a strong mental and physical strength. He used to face challenges and problems with his cool and calm mind. He shows love and affection to each and everybody around him.
He is celebrating his 100th birthday today on 15/08/2020. Let us all pray the Almighty God to bless him with good health and many many years of happy life, friends.
