Chairman, CBIC,

Sub: Duty hours at CCSI (Amausi) Airport, Lucknow.

Sir,

Kindly refer to the Ref. No. 137/AIB/L/21 Dt. 12.09.21 of the Association.

            2. It is submitted with due regards that officers are forced to work only in two shifts on Amausi Airport after the seizure of gold on 15.08.21 by DRI. Earlier to it also, only three shifts were working there instead of standard four shifts as being worked on main airports like Delhi, Mumbai etc. Our officers are forced to perform duty continuously for 24 hours on all week days without any rest at Amausi Airport which is terribly hazardous to their health. They are being called for 24 hours duty on alternate day without due rest. This is highly inhumane not only putting the health of officers at stake but also may result in further human errors during the course of performing highly sensitive duty on airport. By this cruel pattern of forced duties like bonded labour, the officers are unable to have required time to be relaxed and refreshed. No need to say that govt. employees should be given due time to be relaxed and refreshed in the interest of govt. work as per the DOPT guidelines.

3. As far as other airports are concerned, officers are working there in 4 shifts having due hours of rest after duty of 12 hours instead of 24 hours. Officers perform alternate day and night duties of 12 hours having rest for 24 hours after day duty and 48 hours after night duty at these airports. Not only it, same pattern is adopted even in the heart of govt. in Delhi for the duties like EDI, courier, cargo etc.

4. As per the govt. norms, the official working hours are 40 hours weekly. No need to say that these working hours have been fixed with due diligence by the concerned authorities keeping in view various factors including the mental as well as physical health of the employees. Contrary to it, our officers are forced to work for 84 hours weekly at Amausi Airport putting them under double stress. It is submitted further that our officers/subordinates are required to be treated with respect and dignity. A conducive environment is needed to be created so that the subordinate officers feel safe and secure and not need to spend from personal salary for the official work.

5. In view of the above, it is requested to kindly restore normal duty hours for the officers posted at CCSI (Amausi) Airport, Lucknow as being followed at other International Airports like New Delhi, Mumbai etc. particularly keeping in view the health hazards of the officers.

            Thanking you.

Yours sincerely,

(HARPAL SINGH),

Secretary General.
